"I’m beginning to find, more and more, how helpful doing a small study can be before attempting a larger piece. I haven’t worked that way in the past simply because I used to find it painfully boring to do the same painting again, regardless of how much larger it was. It was the same idea, so why would I want to do it again!
Well, I’m finding that you can still make the new, larger piece different and hopefully, better. You can explore new things with technique that are very difficult in a small manner and work through problems quicker in the smaller piece. I think my patience for improvement is growing as well."
